Most Significant Day in the Philippine’s History

 


     Independence Day is one of the most significant Day in the Philippine’s History. June 12, 1898 Philippine Independence declared. During the Spanish-American War, Filipino rebels led by Emilio Aguinaldo proclaim the independence of the Philippines after 300 years of Spanish rule. Independence Day known in the Philippines as “Araw ng Kasarinlan” or “Day of Freedom”, Filipino celebrate it annually for 124 years.

 

     During the Independence Day, people including government officials, employee, and students participate in nationwide parades but the main highlight is the police and military parade in Manila headed by the country’s incumbent president, followed by a speech and a 21-gun salute. During this event, Government offices are close because it is declare as national holiday. Before the pandemic start, students make a Philippine flag as a represent in the Independence Day celebration. The color blue represents (peace, truth, and justice), color red represents (patriotism and valor), white triangle represents (equality and brotherhood). Three stars on the corners of the triangle represents the three main geographical regions of the country namely Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The sun at the center of the triangle has eights rays that represent the eight Philippine Provinces that started the revolt against Spain.

 

     During this pandemic, we should not forget to celebrate Independence Day, because this is the day were we celebrate on achieving our freedom. Even though we will not be able to attend the parade because of the safety protocols, we can still celebrate it in our home by making Philippine flag.
